Zinsser is pleased to introduce new SureGrip® Spray-OnTM Paste Activator for Pre-Pasted Borders & Wallpaper, a convenient, ready-to-use, effective way to activate the paste on pre-pasted borders and wallpaper.
Most borders and wallpaper today are manufactured with the design on one side and an adhesive, or paste, on the back. To apply the borders and wallpaper to the wall the adhesive must be “activated”. SureGrip Spray-On Activator properly conditions the pre-pasted paper without over-wetting, a soggy situation which can remove the paste from the paper as well as cause tearing.
SureGrip Spray-On Paste Activator eliminates the need for a water tray and takes over-saturation out of the equation, which improves bonding strength. The convenient no-mess spray is ideal for use over painted or primed surfaces, it is non-staining and offers easy water cleanup.

While a long-time fan of Zinsser products, especially Shieldz and Guardz, I would advise against wasting one’s money on this new activator. As an experienced installer, activating a pre-pasted product still leaves it stiff and hard to work with. Edges curl up and fail to adhere. Furthermore, particularly if one’s installing over a latex-painted surface (most commonly), the material will invariably dry-out on you. Paperhanging, as hard as the manufacturers try to suggest otherwise, is not like painting where there’s a brush to fit every hand, rather is a skill that requires a lot of experience to attain the desired result.
